What We Do

On March 19-20, 2004 KCLAW co-sponsored a conference, Worker Rights At Home and Abroad. The featured speaker was Amjad Al-Jawhary, representing the Federation of Worker Councils and Trade Unions of Iraq. Amjad also later spoke at the World Still Says No To War rally, March 20.

KCLAW and the KC Labor Party Share Table Space

In collaboration with the Allied Students Against the War, and the KC Iraq Task Force, we organized a teach-in on Labor and the War, held at the University of Missouri-Kansas City,  February 16, 2003, that attracted over one hundred participants.

At the request of the Iraq Task Force we organized the weekly protest at the Plaza Fountain on March 16 that drew over 800.

In the few weeks between our founding and the launch of the war we distributed thousands of leaflets, posters, stickers and buttons in the name of KCLAW.

Today we are focused on opposition to the occupation of Iraq and support to our troops by demanding that they be brought home.

We defend labor rights both in Iraq, where workers are reorganizing their trade unions, and here at home where our rights are being cynically attacked in the name of “homeland security.”

We oppose privatization of Iraq's public sector—as well as our own—as a scam to enrich big corporations while public services, and public service workers suffer.

We condemn the waste of tens of billions on war and occupation while facing cuts in education, health care, transit and other vital public services. It is the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of the working class who will pay the highest price for war and occupation.

Iraq is not just a temporary crisis. Bush projects forty years of “permanent state of war.” The Bush Doctrine gives the green light to further invasions and occupations. Unless this war drive can be turned around the future of American working people, as well as those targeted elsewhere, will be bleak indeed.

Labor needs to take the lead in fighting for peace and the defense of the liberties and living standards of American workers. If you agree we urge you to join us!
